Holz mal ganz anders: Shirley Wagner aus Tucson machts möglich.

Feb 19th 2013, 01:13 - Permalink

The artist Shirley Wagner from Tucson, Arizona, creates unique wood assemblage work by exploring the urban environment. She successfully demonstrates through her popular work that an artist and designer not only can create artful objects but also can serve as a pro-active mediator between form, relief, scale and mass, if you will.

She was born in Youngstown, Ohio. After obtaining a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the State University of Youngstown she lived and worked in New York. In 1983 she moved to Tucson, Arizona, where she resides with her husband in the Sonoran desert - a truly beautiful place of somewhat fragile beauty that provides her with ample light, space and inspiration for her stunning wood assemblage pieces.

Shirley Wagner's artwork immediately appealed to both Hilde and myself - gently stimulating our collective minds and senses - her artistry not seeming so much a category with a certain 'significant content' but rather a 'natural material' - alas wood. We did not knock it! We just loved it!
